Adell Bates was born on July6,1927 in Ripley,Tn to Bennie & Rosie Anderson Bates. He wast he 10th out of 11children. Adell grew up and received his education in the Lauderdale County School District. At an early age he confessed to Christ at Nelson Chapel located in Flippin,TN. In 1950, Adell joined the the United States Army where he was honorably discharged.
On March 6,1951 he married the love of his life, Annie Laura Jones, who preceded him in death, this union continued until her passing. In 1953 Adell and Annie moved to Chicago,IL. During their marriage this hard working couple formed two businesses. A grocery store located on Laramie street on the westside of Chicago. In addition to the store, C&A Construction Co. LLC was born, his primary business was working in the concrete industry. This business was in existence for 30 plus years.Today some of us are still walking on and enjoying the labors of his work.There wasn’t a restaurant on the Western Southside that Adell didn’t visit. He enjoyed eating out. Some of his favorite places were, Priscilla’s Soul Food Restaurant, and Coleman’s Ribs-westside, Daley’s Restaurant -south side andAthena’s Greek restaurant- west-loop. A favorite dessert of his apple coconut cake. Adell continued to working the construction business until his health began to
decline.
Adell received his wings, on February11,2024 Adell was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Laura; son, Omar Bradley; siblings, Myrtle, Beatrice, Mary, J.B., Thomas, James, Roberta, Novester,
Patsy and Elena.
Adell leaves to cherish his memory: hiss on, Christopher Bates of Chicago, IL and daughter, Shirley Bradley of Ripley,TN; four( 4) grandchildren, Jamie Scriber
Johnson (Eric) Ohio, Tashawn and Torey Bradley, RipleyTN, and Vanessa Curry (MI); nine (9) great grandchildren and three (3)great-great
grandchildren, god-daughters, Renee Joshua and Goldie Beasley, godson, Sammy Lacey, and his best-friend for over 20 plus years, Willie Shaw and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
