On August 8, 1917 Harriet Smith was born to the late Anthony & Rachel-Hamilton Smith in Fulton, IN
She attended public school in Fulton, TN and accepted christ at an early age joining Fulton Baptist Church in Lauderdale County.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to Pearl Arthur Barbee on September 15, 1934
and to this union 9 children was born. Her husband Pearl and 6 sons preceded her in death; James, Thomas, William, Eddie, Emmitt, Johnnie.
Later, on her life journey, in 1948 she and Pearl purchased their home and moved Henning, TN where she united with St. Mark Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Peter Baker, she was a member on the Mothers Board, a member of Sisters of Faith and Hope Society #1 and she served faithfully until health failed her. On August 25, 2023 she was 106 years and 17 days old, she mounted up on heavenly wings to take her rest.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: 4 daughters: Hannah Balton, Henning, TN Rachel Lesley, Maple Heights, OH, Annie Washington, Milwaukee, WI, Mollie and Lawrence Brandon, Henning, TN 2 Step-children: Barry Taylor, Colorado Springs, CO Sherry Taylor, Covington, TN 2 daughters-in-law. Linda Diane Barbee, Gary, IN Shirley Barbee, Henning, TN she was an instrumental figure in rearing 2 lovely ladies: Mary Morgan, Martha Moore, 40 grand-children, 80 great- grand-children, 84 great-great children and 30 great-great-great-grand children, a long loving friendship with Bette Shoaf-Anthony, Elizabeth Shoaf-Burns, Lauren Shoaf, Jr. and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
